and i'm a volunteer

spent one friday morning with the folks from IMH and yes it was definitely one interesting session. for once i'm a volunteer and not a volunteer coordinator, i do not have to worry about the expectation of my volunteers, worried if they are enjoying themselves, etc and just concentrate on interacting with the folks there. nice. :)

as usual all the folks were really excited to see us when we approach the ward. excited hands were out waiting for us to shake it and they greeted us with their brightest smile. for sure this is something you wont get to see outside. we rarely smile to stranger or anyone anymore and are always hostile towards one another. :( always feel really welcome whenever i'm with them and especially with my residents too. they are so real, always smiling and happy. something which some of us find it hard to achieve. and they never fail to spread their joy to me too.

little things can make them really happy. i spent the day doing colouring with one uncle and mahjong when another folk jio me . HAHAH. see volunteering can be that fun! YOU GET TO MAHJONG!!! and that uncle who jio me for mahjong is damn pro! you should see how he guide the other volunteer to play! he cant talk so the whole time he was gesturing here and there and i helped to translate a bit. likeaboss yo! HAHAHA

anyway back to this uncle i was doing colouring with, i saw him just scribbling drawings on his paper and writing in chinese.

(does it look like abstract art to you?)

went over to talk to him and decided to add a little colours to his life. :)
thought him to add different colour to it and yes i helped him with it too. of course it's an easy task for me but definitely not for him as i can see im struggling to complete it. lots of encouragement was given from me to prompt him to continue colouring and yes he did it eventually! everyone of us need a little bit of encouragement to keep us going everyday. so be VERY GENEROUS with your encouragement and best of all it's FREEE!!

he gave it to me as 'farewell' gift and even wrote my name on it. sweet. :)
